Soria is a province in Central Spain, about three hours drive from Madrid. It is the least populated province, and if you've read Paolo Coelho's book, By the River Piedra..., it is the hometown of the protagonists of the novel. The town is lovely, quaint, and picturesque, with a gently flowing river, rolling hills, and green meadows. There are Visigoth (?) ruins in the area, ruins of a Medieval Chapel and an hermitage built on the mountain itself. The headquarters of the sponsor of our scholarship, the Fundación Duques de Soria is (of course) located in the town. It's best to go there in the Spring, when the weather is mild, and the flowers are in bloom.
